Cheap laptops for students are becoming so easy to find lately. I’m amazed when I look through online retailers like Amazon or even some of the local electronics stores like Best Buy. They have laptops that would work great as some of the best student laptops and they are starting out at around $299! When I was in college I remember spending quite a bit more on my laptop only to get an entry level model. That’s one of the great advantages of the continually evolving world of computers.

It’s also important to check with the school you’ll be attending to see if they have any requirements on the type of laptops they accept. Almost every school will have some restrictions, but they are typically fairly relaxed. The one exception is if you are looking to purchase one of the Apple laptops, eespecially the Macbook, Macbook Pro, and Macbook Air. I’d take the 5-10 minutes to make the phone call needed and see if your school is willing to work with Apple products, chances are they will be.

The Macbook is one of the best laptops for students.   Not only do you get all the benefits of owning an Apple product like the Genius Bar, you also have the ability to run Microsoft Windows with a piece of software called Bootcamp. Unfortunately the Macbook probably doesn’t fit into the “cheap laptops for students” category. Even with the discount that is given to students who purchase a Macbook, it still comes in at a price of over $800 without tax.

No matter what laptop you choose make sure that it not only meets the requirements for school, but that it’s also a laptop that you would actually use. Personal preference plays a part in how much you use and take care of something. It also might be a good idea to get some type of notebook case to protect that important laptop.

If your child is into Ben 10 and music, the perfect present for him is the Ben 10 MP3 player. This will allow him to listen to his favourite songs on the move at any time. Don’t be caught out by thinking MP3 players are just for adults, there are many out there designed specifically for children in cool designs and bright colours. If you are considering one for your Ben10 toy fan, the one shaped just like Ben Tennyson from the Cartoon Network show will be ideal.

The Ben 10 MP3 player is designed perfectly to represent Ben from the hugely popular cartoon show. The main colour is green, accented by black and white, as you would expect with anything from this brand. The device is feature full and it has the capacity to store 2GB so your child could store up to 500 songs – many more than he is likely to listen to. Earphones, a CD with software drivers and a USB cable are included with the player. The batteries are rechargeable and charge up when connected to a PC via the USB cable. The device is quite small being only 8.5cm tall, 3.3cm wide and 1.1cm deep. It weighs only 25g so is easily carried around by your child anywhere, anytime.

To set it up ideally you will have downloaded music before as the instructions are not that great. Once you know what you are doing the dragging and dropping of songs from your PC onto the MP3 player is easy and could be taught to your child. The only downsides are that there is no control over the volume the music is played at and there is no display on the device telling you what song you are listening to.

So amaze your child with a Ben 10 MP3 player today. They will be impressed with the cool design and the amount of songs they can listen to.

Safe Lock Technologies

by GuestPoster

If you’re keeping valuables of any kind in your home, it’s almost imperative that you keep them well protected in a safe.  Whether it be guns, money, documents, jewelry, family photos, or all of the above, proper protection must be given as insurance against a flood, fire, or break in.  Most folks tend to look at a safe and see a big steel box.   There’s actually a heck of a lot of engineering that goes into making a quality crafted safe, but there’s one thing that they all have in common – a lock.  I’ll use the remainder of this post to explain the three most common safe locks that you’ll find in today’s market.

The oldest, and still perhaps the most common is the combination lock.  This is the classic dial that it offered as an option on nearly all gun safes today.  The primary appeal is that it’s nearly maintenance free, it’s cheap, dependable, and will last forever.  The primary downside is that it’s the slowest of the three to open.  For those less concerned with speed, and more interested in dependability, the combination lock is likely the best bet.

The electronic lock is significantly faster for gaining entry than the aforementioned dial style, and it provides extremely flexible options for optimizing security, primarily in the higher end models.  Many allow time delays, multiple users, open/close indicators, security/surveillance integration, and remote entry.  The downside to electronic locks, as opposed to their older cousin is that they require a bit more maintenance.  You need to change the batteries every so often, and closely monitor conditions that may damage the system – primarily moisture and age.

The final safe lock we’ll discuss is that which uses biometrics, typically most expensive option.  Though many full sized safes don’t offer fingerprint scanners as a feature, they’re becoming more popular with advances in biometric technology.  The main selling point in the type of lock is speed and convenience.  All you need to do is swipe your finger to open the door, and many are available with the ability to store multiple fingerprints for different users.  The downside is that the technology is not yet perfect, and there is still the risk of occasional false rejections, as well as false acceptances.  For this reason, it’s strongly recommended that one investigates redundant option like the S&G biometrics/keypad combination lock.

The choice is yours.  Those are your options.  You need to decide what’s important to you, and your home and personal security.
